April’s birthstone, the Diamond ~ the symbol of Trust and Eternal Love

Diamond, the primary April birthstone, may be the most well known and hardest precious gemstone with a hardness level of 10.0.

Aprils Diamond is the hardest natural mineral, diamonds are both valuable and durable.  The creation of diamonds requires enormous heat and pressure; the only known natural sources are diatremes (a kind of volcanic eruption) or meteorite impacts.

Diamonds are thought to provide the wearer with better relationships and an increase in inner strength. Apparently wearing diamonds is purported to bring other benefits such as balance, clarity and abundance.

The origin of birthstones is believed to date back to the breastplate of Aaron which contained twelve gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel.  And the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.

The Gregorian calendar has poems matching each month with its birthstone. These are traditionally the stones in English-speaking societies. It is not known whether this verse originally is of the Gregorian calendar or not. In fact Tiffany & Co. published these poems “of unknown author” for the first time in a pamphlet in 1870. Below is the poem for April.

Rock Crystal, The gems I use to represent diamonds

She who from April dates her years,
Diamonds shall wear, lest bitter tears
     For vain repentance flow.
